New Government Voted In
BEOGRAD, May 15, 2007 (BETA) - The Serbian Parliament voted
in Serbia's
new government on May 15. The new CABINET consists of representatives of the
Democratic Party (DP), and a coalition between the Democratic Party of Serbia
(DPS) and New Serbia party, and the G17 Plus.
Of Parliament's 250 MPs a total 244 attended the
session, while 133 voted for the cabinet, 106 voted against and five were
neutral. The opposition Serbian Radical Party and the coalition gathered around
the Liberal Democratic Party voted against the government.
The new Serbian cabinet has a total of 25 members - a prime minister, one
deputy prime minister, 22 ministerial posts and one minister without portfolio.
The Democratic Party holds the majority of seats in the cabinet, a total 13
(one deputy prime minister, 11 ministers and one minister without portfolio).
The Democratic Party of Serbia leader and Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav
Kostunica will head the new government, while Democratic Party senior official
Bozidar Dejlic will be minister of European integrations .
Dragan Jocic (DPS) will be the new interior minister, Mirko Cvetkovic (DP) will
be minister of finance, Dragan Sutanovac (DP) the minister of defense, Vuk
Jeremic (DP) the new foreign minister, Dusan Petrovic (DP) minister of justice,
Slobodan Milosavljevic (DP) minister of agriculture, Aleksandra Smiljanic (DP)
minister of telecommunications and IT, Rasim Ljajic (DP) minister of social
affairs, Milan Markovic (DP) minister of state administration and local
self-administration, Sasa Dragin (DP) minister of ecology, Vojislav Brajovic
(DP) minister of culture, and Milica Cubrilo (DP) minister of the diaspora.
Radomir Naumovac (DPS) will be the new minister of religion, Aleksandar Popovic
(DPS) minister of mining and energy, Predrag Bubalo (DPS), Zoran Loncar (DPS)
minister of education, Slobodan Samardzic (DPS) minister of Kosovo and
Metohija, Velimir Ilic (New Serbia) minister of infrastructure, Dragan Djilas
(DP) minister without portfolio for coordinating the National Investment Plan,
Mladjan Dinkic minister of the economy and regional development (G17 Plus),
Tomica Milosavljevic (G17 Plus) minister of health, Snezana Markovic- Samardzic
(G17 Plus) minister of sports, Ana Pesikan (G17 Plus) minister of science.
Earlier on, the Parliament adopted a law on ministries establishing a total of
22 ministries.
The new government has a total of three new ministries - a ministry of defense
and foreign affairs, and a ministry of Kosovo and Metohija.
The former cabinet did not have a ministry of defense or foreign affairs even
though it had a minister of defense and a foreign minister, albeit without
voting rights.
The new government also has a minister without portfolio who will help implement
the National Investment Plan.
A total of 133 MPs voted for the law on ministries, while 92 voted against it.
Three voted neutral and 13 abstained from the vote altogether.
